| WHAT IS A SUSTAINABLE FOREST? Sustainability is efficient forest management that provides for the enhancement of human wellbeing by using, developing, and protecting resources at a rate and manner that enables people to meet current needs while allowing future generations to meet their needs as well; it requires simultaneously meeting environmental, economic, and community aspirations. WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT TEAK? Teak is the most dimensionally stable wood in the world making it ideal for flooring. In addition, harder than Cherry or Walnut, it scores over 1,000 on the Janka hardness scale; a fact that makes it very desirable for flooring. It has always been seen as something special—recognized for its’ beauty, rich grain, and stability, it is used worldwide for ship-building, fine furniture, and decorative trim. When properly installed, it is also excellent for high-end residential applications. Even if glued directly to a properly sealed concrete sub-floor, 5/8 inch solid teak will not cup or warp under anything but the harshest conditions—there is a reason why it is used so extensively for marine applications and outdoor furniture. (See USDA Forest Products Lab Study) In addition, it is a very stable wood: low moisture retention and it doesn't "move" like other hardwoods, especially oak. Finally, it is one of the most recognized and prestigious hardwoods, even in today's international markets.
